Preparing to fail I visited an organisation yesterday that has problems with service delivery. They are large enough to split their efforts into Service Strategy, Service Design and Service Operations - and the latter is the biggest "problem child" they have. The conversation reminded me of many occasions where you are waiting for the next thing to go wrong, a summer of near weekly SAN failures sharply honed our skills in "preparing to fail" (or perhaps "failing well") in the organisation I currently work for. I define this as the art of not being able to prevent a problem, but being expert in dealing with it when it happens.
